MISCELLANEOUS QB1 NOTES AND COMMENTS |

Apparently, there aren't too many others bothered by the fact that the player scores and team scores don't match :-((
A couple of people told me that NTN is filtering the team scores to eliminate those teams from eligibility for the playoffs. Still, what is the reason for filtering the players' scores but not the team score then? No matter what the justification, it isn't applied consistently -- let alone in a fair manner!
For anyone interested, I wrote a script that calculates the team scores from the available player scores. The link, showing the latest game, is here.

Commentary: NTN has been "filtering" both team scores and player scores. Upon reflection though, no team scores should be filtered. If NTN insists on applying a filter to the scores, it is only the individual player scores that should be filtered -- even that needs to be handled VERY carefully. Then, the team scores should be recalculated.
Using NTN's current process, one week team scores get filtered but the player scores that created those team scores (the average of the top 5 scores) are left intact. Other weeks, the player scores are filtered but team scores, that those filtered scores helped create, are left intact.
There is NO justification for "filtering" (deleting) any team scores. If you must, filter the player scores that are too good and recalculate the team scores.
If NTN/Buzztime is incapable of handling this and if there is interest, I may recalculate all 2006 QB1 team scores on this site using the published player scores.
Take care,
Don

NTN supplied the player scores for the Minnesota at Washington game (Sept. 11, 2006). The players' scores match the team scores now! The team and player scores for the second game that night (San Diego at Oakland) can be viewed or downloaded from the Download page of this site.

Originally, the team scores for the first Monday Night Football game of the QB1 season (September 11) came from the first of the two games that night (Minnesota at Washington). NTN indicated that the first of the two games on September 11th would be used in scores and rankings for the season. (And, that does appear to be the case.)
Later, I changed the team scores displayed on this site from the first game to the second game (San Diego at Oakland). Now, they’ve been switched back to the first game again. The reason for the change in the first place was to have the team scores match with the players’ scores that were available. NTN supplied team scores for both games for the September 11th games but only the players list for the second game was made available. Now, though, I've been told by NTN that they will be providing the player scores for the first game. In the meantime, the team scores and the players scores will not match – that is, the September 11th players scores for any given location are not the ones that determined the score for that location (team).

As it turns out, NTN supplied the individual player scores for the first week (September 11) but they are for the second game of the night -- not the first game as I had been lead to believe. For that reason, the team scores for the first week in the database were changed to those from the second game of the night (San Diego at Oakland).

The player scores for the September 11, 2006 game have not been made available by NTN. The NTN employee that sends the scores out says he's waiting for approval before sharing those scores.
