August 28, 2002 By: Betty Ramsey Passport Destination: Seattle Packing Round 1. Seattle is knick-named the EMERALD city.. 2. The frontier town of Seattle experienced a boom in 1897 as a result of this: ALASKA GOLD RUSH 3. Seattle is famous as the home of this rock music movement. GRUNGE 4. The PIKE Place Market is one of Seattle's most popular tourist attractions. 5. Horse-drawn carriages, pedicabs and souvenir shops dominate this touristy area. WATERFRONT 6. Known to locals simply as "The Mountain," Mount RAINIER takes up half of Seattle's skyline. Picture: Space needle Departure Round 1.Seattle is known for these establishments. COFFEEHOUSES 2. This annual Labor Day weekend arts and music festival draws visitors from far and wide. BUMBERSHOOT 3. All of these movies are set in Seattle except YOU'VE GOT MAIL 4. Seattle is situated on an isthmus that lies between the Puget Sound and Lake WASHINGTON. 5. The only National Football team in the northwest is the Seattle SEAHAWKS. Seattle's famous zoological park is named the WOODLAND Zoo. 3. This area of historic buildings and totem-pole lined plazas is the city's birthplace. PIONEER SQUARE 4. Visitors should enjoy a tour of Seattle's UNDERGROUND that begins at a restored 1890's saloon. 5. Seattle was a key center for the AIRCRAFT industry in World War II. 6. On February 28, 2001 a EARTHQUAKE caused millions of dollars of damage in Seattle. 9. All of these buildings of more than fifty stories can all be found in Seattle except CHASE WORLD HEADQUARTERS. 10. "Waiting for the Interurban" is the name of a much-discussed Seattle STATUE. 11. Mid-June to September is best for viewing the FISH LADDER on the south side of the Chitten Locks.. 12.
