An early 20th-Century pleasure pier is a draw in this California city where I-10 begins. SANTA MONICA 3 From L.A., the I-10 goes through Palm Springs and this neighboring "Date Capital" of the U.S. INDIO 4. This historic area of Phoenix features fully restored homes from the original settlement. HERITAGE SQUARE 5. Outside Tucson we'll veer off the I-10 to visit this national park named for a cactus.
