"SHAW, FRANK BERNARD On April 7, aged 73 years, suddenly at hospital in Toronto and formerly of Ossett. Dear brother of Bessie and brother-in-law of Colin, loving father, grandfather and uncle."

Frank was a retired geography teacher and a fund of knowledge for the NTN Passport games as well as being a respected member of the "JJ and J Showdown team."

Karen Tinsley said that "he was a devoted, beloved customer of Joe Mercury's for many years. He was a fixture at both the 'downstairs' and 'upstairs' bars'." Frank organized many of the Joe Mercury's golf tournaments and sports pools and golfed with several of the Joe Mercury's regulars including management, staff, and patrons.

As a young man, Frank served in the British military.

NOTE: The "JJ and J team," mentioned above, played at the upper bar in Joe Mercury's and consisted of John and Jennifer Glossop, Frank Shaw, Reneé Clegg, Simon W. and various other friends and family; John was the captain of the team. At Joe Mercury's, there was only one playmaker allowed per table. The team at each table might consist of 5 to 10 players. The team name was chosen by the participants present on the night of the team's formation and was often based on the initials of team members. There was no individual glory to be won by being on any Joe Mercury's team.

Thanks to Renee Clegg, Jennifer Glossop, and Karen Tinsley for the information and pictures on this page.
