"DALY, William Michael "Bill" Age 67, of Sherborn, MA passed away on Aug. 7, 2010, surrounded by his family in his home. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn (Gillis) Daly with whom he devotedly shared forty years of marriage. Born and raised in Asheville, NC, Bill was the son of the late John and Anne (Hooton) Daly. He attended the Gibbons Hall School in Asheville, NC; The Hill School in Pottstown, PA - Class of 1960, graduating at the top of his class and excelling in Music and the Dramatic Arts; and Harvard Univ.-Class of 1964. He graduated from Harvard with an A.B. degree in English Literature, and shortly thereafter became a staff member at the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory in Cambridge, working on the Apollo project. He was responsible there for the digital simulation of the onboard flight software. He left MIT in 1978 to become a freelance consultant, working on computer language development in Italy for Olivetti and FIAT, and since 1985 as a developer of trading systems in foreign exchange and Money Markets, mainly in New York, but also in Copenhagen, London, Tokyo and Hong Kong. In recent years, Bill extended his development background to the Internet, co-designing, with his daughter Lauren, a massive database application of apartment listings for his son-in-law's company, RentalBeast.com. Apart from his extensive knowledge of computer languages, he was also fluent in Italian and had a working knowledge of French and German. Bill was nationally known as a top-ranking trivia guru. He has been described as a human encyclopedia, a class act and a splendid gentleman and educator. Bill loved to travel and enjoyed many trips abroad with his family. He had a penchant for cooking elaborate recipes and was a connoisseur of many fine wines. In his spare time he read books on algebra and was fascinated with Pi. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his three loving children, Lauren Grinberg and her husband Ishay of Natick, Alex Daly of Essex Junction, VT, and Elizabeth Daly of Brooklyn, NY. He was the cherished "Granddaddy" of Lily and David, and the dear brother of Cathorne Williams of Atlanta, Marian Keating of Asheville, N.C. and the late John Daly, Jr. and James Daly. Private funeral services were held at the Pilgrim Church in Sherborn followed by burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Sherborn.
